With the changes to Daylight Savings Time per legislation passed back in 2005, there are some updates you may need to run to ensure your system properly changes time on March 11th, 2007. We have compiled the information below to assist you in updating your system and Outlook calendar appointments (if used) so that the transition is as smooth as possible.
NOTE: If your organization has a server running Microsoft Exchange, there may be additional patches that need to be installed. Please give our help desk a call at 321-757-8909 and someone can assist you with either installing the patches or downloading them to be installed.
Step 1 - Updating your PC/Workstation
- You must be running Windows XP Service Pack 2 in order to be able to apply this patch to your system. If you are not running Windows XP Service Pack 2, you will have to visit Windows Update to get this downloaded and installed. You can visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ for more information.
- How to determine if you have Windows XP Service Pack 2
- Right click on "My Computer", select "Properties" from that list
- On the dialog that opens, there will be several tabs, but the first one that appears will give you information about your system. It will tell you what version of Windows you are running as well as the service pack level here.
- Installing the DST Patch
- You can download the patch for DST for Windows XP by clicking here.
- Download this file to your desktop and then run it. Simply follow the instructions to install. This patch WILL NOT require you to restart your PC.
- If you have Automatic Updates enabled, you will get an error/warning that a newer or existing patch is already installed. Simply click OK/Close to cancel installing the patch since you already have it.
Step 2 - Updating Your Microsoft Outlook
- Upon updating your PC/Workstation, you will also need to go and update your Outlook appointments. To do this, download this utility provided by Microsoft by clicking here.
- Once you have downloaded it, simply double click on it to launch the application and follow the steps below:
Step 1: Select your mailbox/profile
When the Change Calendar Time Zone dialog box appears:
- Select your mailbox.
- Verify that your correct time zone is selected.
- Click OK.
Note If you want to update a different profile, click Custom, and repeat the earlier steps.
Step 2: Verify that the calendar items are correct
When the dialog following dialog box appears, click Details.
In the list of calendar items that appears:
- Look for all calendar items that occur within the following date ranges:
- March 11 – April 1
- October 28 – November 4
- For each of those items, if the time shown in the New Time column is incorrect, then click to clear the check box next to it.
- Click OK.
Step 3: Click OK in the final dialog box.
